The Winter Edit

With colder weather comes warmer-toned makeup and this weird-but-totally-fun combination between matte and sparkle. Oh and the grimmer the scenery outside, the deeper the red lipstick – well, that’s something to be excited about!

So how do we get through the unbearable temperatures of this dreadful season? Repeat after me: matte skin, gold eyelids and a red lip. If your coat fails to keep you warm, I guarantee these three vital elements will. Jokes aside, a matte complexion is not only a holidays trend for me, but also a year-round necessity, since my slippery face is a real issue.

Primer? Essential. I’m slightly OCD about not applying makeup to my face unless it’s primed beforehand. This lil’ drugstore gem – Rimmel Lasting Finish Primer – is a white miraculous cream that will help keep everything in place for quite a while.

The L’Oreal Infallible 24-Matte, 11 Vanilla might be in fact my favourite foundation of all time. Although it feels incredibly lightweight on the skin, it provides high coverage without looking cakey and of course, it’s completely matte. It’s everything I personally want in a foundation.

When it comes to eye makeup, I am currently trying to stay away from the good old liquid liner and venture into the smudged liner look more. Rimmel’s Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer, 261 Noir is a fantastic liner that will not budge or smear into the lids during the day. Smudging the line with the little sponge on the other end creates a great not-too-smokey look for both day and night.

It comes as no surprise that my love for the Maybelline Color Tattoos is neverending and independent of the seasons. They are surely not a winter must-have, but a life essential. Metallic Pomegranate screams autumn, as well as winter: mauve with gold particles? GIMME. Pigmentation on point, lasting power 785+ hours and blendable. On and On Bronze, another classic: perfect for that Christmas look. Trust me, it’s that good.

Left to right: On and On Bronze, Metallic Pomegranate, Kate Moss 107, Plumful

Next up, liptsticks. Rimmel Kate Moss 107 is an old blogger’s love. Great for any skin tone, matte and of a vibrant wine colour, you will not see me wear anything else this winter. For those of you who prefer a tamer hue, MAC’s Plumful is the perfect lustre mauve choice.

Lastly, dark red nails for winter? Groundbreaking. But it’s tradition and we have to paint our nails this colour for the holiday season. OPI’s Every Month is Oktoberfest is an amazing mahogany that will even look black in certain lights. But we do enjoy the dark side, don’t we?

Keep warm!

  1. I’ve never been able to wear primer (i have the opposite problem from you – VERY dry skin) until this awesome salesperson at Ulta introduced me to Smashbox Photo Finish and told me how to use it properly (be sure my moisturizer has settled/dried before applying it). Finally I understand all the primer-love!
